Rita Brent is a clean comedian, musician, and military veteran from Jackson, Mississippi. During her childhood she developed musical skill sets in talent shows and southern Baptist churches, performing as a drummer and singer alongside her mother, a Baptist Minister. She joined the 41st Army National Guard Band at age 18 where she served for nine years and ended her time in service as a sergeant.

She spent the following six years as a host and producer in Public Radio before taking the plunge into Standup Comedy. In her brief career as a standup comedian, she’s been featured on Kevin Hart’s “Hart of the City” (Comedy Central), TruTV’s “Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks,” Circle TV (“Standup Nashville), and listed by Thrillist as “The Best Undiscovered Comedian in Mississippi”. Rita has released three singles, “Kamala,” a song of solidarity for Kamala Harris and “Raised in the Sipp” are the latest. She tours occasionally as a feature act with her mentor, Rickey Smiley, and recently- Cedric the Entertainer’s “Rock Your Brim” Comedy Tour. Currently, Rita is a staff writer on Comedy Central’s new Untitled Charlamagne Weekly Show.

Rita splits her time as a comedian and musician. As a mucial comedians, in 2019, she traveled to Nigeria and Tanzania, Africa as a musical ambassador with the band, Teneia via the American Music Abroad Program. She recently released her first satirical single, “Rock Me Like a Pothole,” which has gone viral on multiple social media platforms. Her latest single is titled, “Quarantine Shuffle,” a satirical pandemic awareness song. She also co-produced the current theme song with Teneia for the city of Jackson, “City with Soul (My City)”. September 2019 in Jackson, MS, she came out of the closet at her farewell comedy show, “Sipp on this Tea,” and now lives freely and openly (a luxury she has never had while living in the South). Her comedy special, “Sipp on this Tea” is currently available on Vimeo and all digital music platforms.
