The ROI of Booking Event Entertainment

When I was in college, I worked at a factory. Every morning at four o’clock a.m. I would rub the sleep from my eyes and slunk off to work. It. Was. Miserable. I hated every single minute of it, but three years after my first day, I was still heading off to the same depressing job. Why? Two reasons.

1. The money was good

2. The Holiday Party

I remember every year, after an unbelievably hot and sweaty summer I would be ready to quit. But I would tell myself: “Stick it our for a few more months, the Holiday Party is just around the corner.” A nice bonus, great food, games and prizes—how could I resist?

I would hold out until the party every year, and afterward, I wouldn’t feel like quitting anymore. It didn’t occur to me until later why that was.

A great event alone can do wonders for your business, but one of the most important things I learned from my time at the factory was that entertainment is key in taking an event from good to extraordinary. If it hadn’t been for the promise of entertainment, I probably wouldn’t have attended these events at all. And because of that, I wouldn’t have been as satisfied with my job, I wouldn’t have felt as connected to my coworkers, and I probably would have quit in time.

Why is this important? If you are considering entertainment for your event, you need to know why it is necessary; what added value are you getting? Take a look at the list below to see how entertainment can bring a return on investment.

Enhance Company Culture

The kind of entertainer you hire says a lot about your company and can shift the perception your employees have of company culture. For example, a clean corporate comedian speaks to a culture that is based in professionalism, but one that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Whereas a show-stopping act speaks to a culture that is focused on innovation and creativity. Your entertainment choice for the evening is just one more way you can communicate with employees and influence how they think and feel about the company.

Motivation

Every once in awhile, we all need a little break from work; an escape from the everyday monotony to replenish ourselves. An event can serve as a mini-vacation from office life (even if it is smack dab in the middle of the work week). Entertainment has a tendency to increase this feeling of a small get away. After a special night of fun, employees often return to work feeling refreshed and ready. They are induced with a sense of motivation and gratitude.

Employee Satisfaction

A company that is willing to hire professional entertainment for its employees is a company that cares. Just as a bonus, a raise, and extra time off can increase employee satisfaction, so can entertainment. Entertainment isn’t something that is expected. Employees see it as an added gift or reward. I cannot stress this point enough. As I said in my intro, I hated my factory job, but because of the event entertainment present at my company’s holiday party, I would suddenly feel satisfied and stick around for another year.

Now, you probably don’t want employees staying with your company simply because of an event you throw, but the point here is that entertainment shows your employees you care.

Building Connections

Having an event, in general, is a great way to break down walls and get your employees to really connect, but entertainment tends to add another layer to this bond building. Comedians allow employees to laugh together, magicians give employees the opportunity to connect through questioning, and murder mystery troupes bring employees together through a common goal.

The connections don’t just end there either. Instead of the usual gossip about who said what, who did what, and whose spouse was unbearable at last year’s event, an entertainer provides a conversation topic that is a little more constructive.

Event Attendance

When you throw an event like a fundraiser, attendance can be crucial to its success. An easy and effective way to draw a big crowd is to hire a professional entertainer. Celebrities tend to bring in the largest number of guests, but the promise of any entertainer at all usually boosts attendance in a big way. If you want to get the most out of your event, entertainment is the way to go.
